Ken Mallory

Director, Citizen-Leader Track

Ken Mallory is the director for the Citizen-Leader Track, also known as VPI Battalion. He previously served as the assistant director for the Citizen-Leader Track from 2021-2023.

He is a 2006 graduate of the Corps of Cadets and its Citizen-Leader Track and received his master's degree in teaching from Christopher Newport University in 2008.  He then entered public education, teaching history and government to middle and high school students for 14 years in Newport News, Virginia, and in Blacksburg, Virginia. In these capacities, he served as department chair, data and interventions lead, and coached multiple sports and academic teams.  

He also partnered with the Office of Teacher Preparation at Christopher Newport University to mentor teaching interns and train professional teachers to host student interns.

In addition to the education field, he is active in the community, having served as an elections official, community running ambassador, and first aid/CPR instructor for the Red Cross.

He is originally from Yorktown, Virginia, and is married to Katie Mallory, the Corps' communications director.  They have a daughter, Abigail, and enjoy the company of three dogs.  When not at work, he can be found out and about, running, hiking, or working in his woodworking shop.
