Philanthropy: Coming Together for Victory
By Kelley Corvin VT'12, Chief Advancement Officer
This fall, I witnessed my first New Cadet Week. As a bystander, I really enjoyed watching our cadre step into their leadership positions and I enjoyed seeing the growth of our new cadets throughout the week. I took daily walks to the O-course and the rappel tower to watch the cadets navigate these obstacles; I even participated in the regimental run!
Being there firsthand to witness cadets supporting one another to overcome challenges as a team and cheering on their buds was truly inspiring. It was a reminder of the impact we can make when we work together towards a common goal.
This year, the Corps of Cadets has two goals where your support can make a difference:
-Help the Corps attain 800 donors on Giving Day (Feb. 19-20). Giving Day is 24 hours of philanthropy focused on the impact that can be made when Hokie Nation comes together to support a common goal.
-Leave your mark on the Corps of Cadets during the Virginia Tech Boundless Impact campaign. When the 10-year Boundless Impact campaign started in 2017, the Corps was tasked with raising $80 million. We have raised $65 million so far and need your help to finish strong by 2027.
When I reflect on New Cadet Week and continue to get to know cadets individually, it is very easy for me to remember my “why.” Watching them come together for the greater good is what it is all about. My role is to inspire alumni, family, and friends to support these cadets.
If you wish to discuss ways that you can help shape the Corps’ continued success or leave your mark on the Boundless Impact campaign, please contact me, Kelley Corvin at (540-231-2806), kcorvin@vt.edu for more information.
