This page is meant to answer questions specific to the Corps of Cadets. Answers may change as new information is available from Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech’s plan for the fall 2020 semester

All information about housing, student services, academics, financial accounts, admissions, etc. will come from the university, not the Corps, at

Specific information about the ROTC programs will come from the individual ROTC programs.

The Corps will follow all university guidance related to events this fall.

Key dates include:

  • Cadre Week: Starts Aug. 9
  • New Cadet Week: Starts Aug. 15
  • Highty-Tighty Band Camp: Starts Aug. 17
  • Move in for all other cadets: After noon, Aug. 22
  • First day of classes: Aug. 24

The Corps will have housing and roommate assignments completed in early August.

All rooms will be double occupancy. 

Delta, Hotel and India will be housed in Main and West Eggleston halls on Lower Quad. 

All other cadets will be housed in Pearson Hall East and West on Upper Quad.

Information about New Cadet Move-In on Aug. 15 will be available in the New Cadet Guide. New Cadets can sign up for time slots through Canvas.

Upperclass move-in will begin at noon Aug. 22. Returning cadets must sign up for a time slot through Housing. Details regarding cadet time slots are forthcoming, and cadets should continue to monitor their email for updates. In keeping with normal Corps’ practices, only upperclass cadets may enter the residence halls to move their belongings to their rooms.

All cadets should follow the regular packing list and add the following items:

  • 7-10 cloth face masks (details below)
  • Hand sanitizer: One for your room and a small one to carry with you
  • A thermometer
  • Hand soap
  • Spray disinfectant: To keep surfaces in your room clean


Cadets assigned to Eggleston rooms should consider bringing:

  • A window fan (1 per cadet)
  • A desk hutch (rental option available)
  • Containers for open closets
  • A tension rod and solid-color shower curtain to act as a closet door. To meet fire code, shower curtains must be fire retardant.

All cadets will need 7 to 10 face masks (a week’s supply). 

Cadet masks should be cloth, washable and have ear loops. Masks must be a solid color: black*, brown, beige, or gray.

Masks cannot have logos, artwork, or air vents. Neck gaiters, buffs, and bandanas are not allowed.

*Air Force cadets should have at least one black mask for their ROTC uniform. Additional guidance will be coming from Army and Naval ROTC.
