COVID-19 / Corps Updates

Updated: May 15, 2020

This page is meant to answer questions specific to the Corps of Cadets. Answers may change as new information is available from Virginia Tech.

Review information from Virginia Tech on COVID-19.

All information about housing, student services, academics, financial accounts, admissions, etc. will come from the university, not the Corps, at https://vt.edu/flu/2019Coronavirus.html.

Specific information about the ROTC programs will come from the individual ROTC programs.

Cadets moving out for the rest of the semester will need to follow all university guidance. Students may schedule a move out date/time availabile starting June 10 on this form. All move-out activities are currently suspended, and time slots will not be available until Virginia lifts its stay-at-home order.

If you have any special circumstances related to housing and access to our residence halls, including the need for emergency access any of your possessions, please email housing@vt.edu. The Corps staff cannot approve these these requests.

The Tailor Shop is closed until further notice.  If you have immediate questions or needs, email Dean Miller at wdmiller@vt.edu

Once the move-out process resumes, the following items must be returned:

Seniors

Cape and sabers must be returned to the Tailor Shop. Please ensure that the cape is not flared.

Cadets returning in fall 2020

Overcoat, blue blouse, and sabers must be returned to the Tailor Shop.

Cadets not returning to the Corps in fall 2020

Please consult this list of mandatory items to return to the Tailor Shop.

Summer storage

If you wish to use A Cleaner World for cleaning and storage of uniforms until August 2020, the business is at 103 King St SW in Blacksburg. Hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

All Corps events are canceled through the summer.

Summer orientation will be online only. As a result, the Corps’ uniform fittings will be moved to the fall.

Virginia Tech’s leadership has not made decisions about the fall semester. The Corps’ planning for New Cadet Week and Corps activities in the fall will be finalized when we have guidance from the university.

A New Cadet Guide and packing list will be posted to our website and distributed to new cadets as soon as the Corps’ staff is confident that it is as comprehensive as possible. Please do not use a previous year's materials as a reference — because of the pandemic there may be major tweaks to the information and instruction.

Incoming Corps parents and guardians can request access to our families-only Facebook group to connect and ask questions.

New cadets can ask questions through Canvas and join a cadets-only Facebook group to connect with other first-year cadets.
